#12 Electrathon

Our second electrathon vehicle was built for the 2004-05 electrathon competition year. This vehicle utilized an aluminum chassis and fiberglass bodyshell. It also holds the distinction of being the second electrathon to test at Road America.

During the 2004-05 competition, we ran into two major part malfunctions. The first happened at Road America when our rear tire’s planetary hub disintegrated while going up the hill at turn five. We were able to replace the hub with a 7 speed Shimano Nexus for the next race. Then, when getting the car ready for it’s first official race at FVTC, a miss-wired battery system blew out the vehicle's motor controller.

The #12 car was extensively modified for the 2005-06 electrathon competition year. A completely new chassis was designed, utilizing our supermileage chassis design. We did this to increase the size of the driver’s compartment and to actually lighten the chassis, even by using steel.
